Cost-Effective Wellington Flea Treatments and Removals

Contrac2Kill uses innovative techniques to thoroughly remove unwanted pests from residential properties.

Effective removals

At Contrac2kill we know that killing adult fleas may not solve your problem, as insecticides do not kill unhatched fleas in eggs. Contrac2kill treatments are tailored to kill the adult fleas and the unhatched eggs. It is important to have a complete control programme in place, including regular thorough vacuuming, and treatment to pets.

Human, dog and cat fleas

Fleas are parasites that survive from sucking the blood from their hosts. They can live on humans, cats and dogs. Flea bites result in red spots, surrounded by reddened halos. They are extremely itchy and cause great discomfort. In more severe cases, their saliva can cause allergic reactions, and scratching can result in hair loss and infections. These parasites often target the legs and feet of humans, and may infest the entire bodies of domestic house pets. Many wildlife species carry them as well and if these animals are associated around one’s home, the fleas may migrate to pets and humans.

Persistent pests

Fleas can survive for some months without feeding, thus making them an all year round problem. They use their saw-like mandibles to cut through skin on accessible parts of the body. Their saliva contains anticoagulants that encourages the blood to keep flowing, leading to visible ‘blood spotting’ on bed linen and pet bedding. Females often lay their eggs after feeding.

Nesting

Fleas may live for more than a year under ideal conditions. These include the right temperature, food source and high humidity. Moist, shaded spots where household pets reside, are the most common places to find them. Indoors, eggs and larvae are usually found under furniture, in pet bedding or along the skirting boards. The eggs are light coloured and oval shaped. The larvae cocoon themselves within weeks of hatching. Vibration, such as footsteps, prompts adult fleas to emerge from their cocoons. This is why you may be bitten after entering a house that has been unoccupied for some time.
